Sit in front of a mirror and create a variety of expressions; quizzical, fed-up, happy etc - create some of your own. Look out for muscle movement over the whole head. Take photographs (Selfies) of a selection of expressions - you should be beginning to build your own 'visual reference library'.
Make drawings from some of the expressions both from life and from the photographs and compare the difference between those produced from life and those from photographs. Use a variety of media as suggested.
The drawings can be as detailed as you like - some may be more like cartoon drawings using line only. As long as you focus on capturing different expressions it doesn't matter how detailed the drawings are. Sometimes a good drawing can capture the expression with just a few lines.
Photograph all work produced and keep in a file in preparation for assessment at the end of the teaching block. Do not throw any work away.
